Construction Water Testing

What We Test
Our laboratory follows IS 456:2000 and other BIS standards to determine the suitability of water for construction. Essential tests include:
pH Value
Ensuring the water is not too acidic or alkaline.
Acidity & Alkalinity
Quantifying the amount of acid or base present.
Total Solids & Suspended Matter
Measuring silt, clay and other particles that weaken concrete
Organic & Inorganic Solids
Detecting organic contaminants that may interfere with curing.
Chloride Content
High chloride accelerates corrosion of steel reinforcement.
Sulphate Content
Excess sulphates cause expansion and cracking.
Neutralization Tests
Determining how much acid (H₂SO₄) or base (NaOH) is required to neutralize 100 ml of water, as per IS 456:2000

Here's What They Say

FAQs
Why can’t I use any water for mixing concrete?
Contaminants such as salts, acids, alkalis and organic matter weaken the bond between cement and aggregates, slow the setting process and cause corrosion
Which standards govern water quality for construction?
IS 456:2000 specifies that water must be clean, neutral (pH ≥ 6) and free from harmful quantities of oils, acids, alkalis, salts, sugar and organic matter. Our testing aligns with these requirements.
When should I test construction water?
Water should be tested before construction begins, whenever the source changes or if there are signs of contamination. Large projects often test multiple times throughout construction.
What happens if my water doesn’t meet IS limits?
We’ll recommend treatment options (e.g., filtration, reverse osmosis) or advise sourcing water from an alternative supply. Using unsuitable water can lead to costly structural defects.
Do I need to test curing water separately?
Yes. Water used for curing must also be clean and free from contaminants that could deposit on concrete surfaces. We offer separate testing for curing water if required.
